Do You Dream About Flying Or Going Home?

Many people have recurring dreams such as being able to fly or going back home to where they were born but what does it really mean to fly or to go home in your dreams?

In college, I took a class on the Psychology of Sleep and Dreams. When we dream, we use metaphors in place of actual objects or events.  For example, you may have a bad dream where you see a 100 foot tall tire rolling toward you.  The tire would represent stressors that occurred earlier that day and is being played out through a tire that is so large in size, that it represents insurmountable stressors or challenges in your every day life.

Most dream analysis websites give wonderful explanations of what any symbol represents in your dreams.  The two I use most often are DreamMoods and Glamour Dream Analysis.

If you have a dream about an animal, bird or insect… or if any of these come into your waking day for no apparent reason, you can always refer to In5D’s Animal Symbolism, Totems and Dream Analysis from A to Z.

Dreams of flying

Have you ever dreamt that you could fly like a bird?  It’s a relatively rare dream to have for most people, but I’ve found quite a few people within this genre who have experienced this dream numerous times.

According to DreamMoods,

If you are flying with ease and are enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. You have risen above something. It may also mean that you have gained a new and different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.

Having difficulties staying in flight indicates a lack of power in controlling your own circumstances. You may be struggling to stay aloft or stay on set course. Things like power lines, trees, or mountains may be obstacles that you encounter in flight. These obstacles symbolize something or someone who is standing in your way in your waking life. You need to identify what or who is trying to prevent you from moving forward. Difficulty flying may also be an indication of a lack of confidence or some hesitation on your part. You need to believe in yourself and not be afraid.

If you are feeling fear when you are flying or that you are flying too high, then it suggests that you are afraid of challenges and of success. Perhaps you are not ready to take the next step.

In reality, we cannot really fly, of course. Thus, such dreams can be representative of things that are beyond your physical limitations. In your mind, you can be anybody and do anything. Another way of interpreting flying dreams is that these dreams symbolize your strong mind and will. You feel undefeatable and that nobody can tell you what you cannot do and accomplish. Such dreams are sure to leave you with a great sense of freedom.

Glamour Dream Analysis stated:

This is one dream symbol on which practically every source agrees. It represents the dreamer’s basic ambition, but the interpretation depends on the details of the flight, so the surroundings, weather, etc., must be considered along with the action. As a general guide: If you successfully maintained your flight at a low to medium height, you can expect to achieve your goal without much difficulty. If you were trying (or straining) to reach a high altitude, the dream is telling you that your grasp is greater than your reach, and you would be wise to alter your course.

When I dream about flying, I can soar as high in the air as I desire and then swoop down toward the ground.  All I need to do is to arch my back and I’m “ascending” back up into the sky. Perhaps this dream is about ascension or being a free spirit, as free as a bird?  What I can tell you is that I am normally afraid of heights but in my dreams, it feels as if flying is the natural thing to do, without fear.

Metaphysical interpretations

What many dream analysis dictionaries do not include is the metaphysical side of our dreams,  For example, I had a dream where I was inside the foundation of a house being built.  There were three ladders and I was standing at the top of them with one foot on the ladder on the left side and one foot on the right side ladder while straddling the middle ladder.  In dream analysis, a house or vehicle represents YOU, even if your are inside of either.  In this dream, there is a new house being built, which might represent a rebirth.  Ladders, in dream analysis, typically represent where you are heading.  If you are climbing up a ladder, it might mean that a promotion may happen soon but in a metaphysical sense, it could represent ascension and/or a DNA upgrade to a 3 strand DNA.  In this particular dream, it felt as if it was more of a message to humanity than for myself.

If you use a dream dictionary, try to look at your dream symbols through a metaphysical viewpoint because ultimately, it is YOUR interpretation that matters.

Dreams of going home

Another metaphysical dream theme is going back home to where you grew up. DreamMoods states:

To see your childhood home, your hometown, or a home that you previously lived in, indicates your own desires for building a family and your family ideologies. It also reflects aspects of yourself that were prominent or developed during the time you lived in that home. You may experience some unfinished feelings that are being triggered by some waking situation.

I believe this type of dream goes much deeper, metaphysically.

Past life regression hypnotherapist Dolores Cannon talks about the volunteer souls who have volunteered to come to this planet because they “heard the call that Earth was in trouble.”  Many of these volunteer souls do not feel as though Earth is their home planet.  Cannon, when speaking about these volunteer souls, stated, “They want to go home. They don’t know where home is but it’s not here.”

When I have talked to other people about “going home” in their dreams, many have felt the same way… that Earth is not their planet of origin.

Is it possible that dreaming of “going home” is actually a dream either going back to your planet of origin or back to the Creator?

I recently had a dream where I was aboard a huge spaceship.  I was in a very large round room and there were small groups of people all around me.  We all looked like we were in our 20’s or so.  I was in a group of about 8-10 people and our thoughts were instantly interactive through telepathy.  Each group was creating and manifesting something, but I don’t specifically remember what it was.  What I do remember is that this was a group manifestation and we were all on the same page.  For example, someone would think of a contribution to the group and another would add to it.  Each additional thought made the manifestation even more amazing.  If someone joined the group, they would instantly know everything we manifested before they joined us and would immediately be able to interact with the group.  If you wanted to take a break, you could leave any time.  I chose to leave and went “back home”.  I was in my old neighborhood, playing guitar on a futuristic amplifier that was no bigger than a pack of cigarettes and did not require electricity. In this dream, I knew every possible scale on guitar and could play amazingly well.  Two friends joined me… one to listen and another to play along.  I knew at any time, I could go back to the ship.

What this dream showed me is that if we somehow go into the 5th dimension, you are part of a mass consciousness manifestation.  There are no fears, just loving manifestation groups of like-minded people.  There is no one in this dimension who would want to blow up the world with their thoughts.  It’s not even a remote possibility. It’s as if you are one cell in a body and you’re harmoniously interacting with all of the cells around you, instantaneously. Your soul is completely transparent and there is nothing in your past to be embarrassed or ashamed about.

Learning from your dreams

If you find yourself having nightmares on a common basis, then your dreams are telling you that there are areas within your psyche that need to be addressed.  For many people, it could be common stressors, such as bills, work or a bad relationship.
