Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs: Why Your Horoscope Doesn’t Always Feel Accurate!

Have you ever read your horoscope and thought, “That sounds like me… but something’s missing?” If so, there’s a good chance that you’re missing two-thirds of the picture!
Most people know their zodiac sign:
“I’m a Libra.”
“I’m a Leo.”
“I’m a Pisces.”
But what many people don’t realize is that particular sign is only one small piece of who you truly are.
What many people don’t realize is that particular sign is only one small piece of who you truly are. The reason is pretty simple. Most people only know their Sun sign, but to really understand yourself, you also need to know your Moon and Rising signs because each one tells a different part of your story.
Your Sun Sign: Your Core Self
Your Sun sign is the one almost everyone knows. It’s determined by where the Sun was the day you were born and represents your core personality. Basically, it’s your identity, purpose and traits that you’re naturally drawn toward throughout your life.
Think of it as the foundation that everything else is built upon. For example, if someone asked you to describe yourself in one sentence, your Sun sign would probably have a lot to say about that answer.
Your Moon Sign: Your Emotional World
While your Sun represents who you are, your Moon represents how you feel. It governs your emotions, intuition, instincts, and the way you process life internally. This is often the side of yourself that only your closest friends and family truly see.
For example, two people born under the same Sun sign can have completely different emotional responses to the exact same situation because their Moon signs are different.
Understanding your Moon sign often explains why you react the way you do.

Your Rising Sign: The First Impression
Your Rising sign, which is also called your Ascendant, is determined by the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the exact moment you were born. This is why your birth time matters.
Your Rising sign influences the way other people see you. It also affects the way you approach new situations and often shapes your appearance, mannerisms, and first impressions.
Think of it as the energy you project into the world.
Why All Three Matter
Imagine trying to understand a book by only reading one chapter. That’s what happens when you only know your Sun sign.
Your Sun, Moon and Rising all work together.
- Your Sun describes your core identity.
- Your Moon reveals your emotional nature.
- Your Rising shapes how you interact with the world.
Together, they paint a much more complete picture of who you are.
Why Horoscopes Sometimes Don’t Feel Accurate
One of the biggest misconceptions in astrology is believing your Sun sign tells the whole story.
It doesn’t.
For example, someone with a Libra Sun may relate much more strongly to a Pisces Moon during emotional situations.
Or a quiet Cancer Sun may appear outgoing because of a Leo Rising.
Once you begin looking at all three signs together, astrology starts making much more sense.
What Does It Mean If You’re a Double or Triple Sign?
Here’s where astrology gets even more interesting. You may find that you have the same zodiac sign in two or even all three of your “Big Three.”
For example, someone might have:
- Libra Sun and Libra Moon (Double Libra)
- Cancer Sun and Cancer Rising (Double Cancer)
- Pisces Moon and Pisces Rising (Double Pisces)
When the same sign appears more than once in your chart, the qualities of that sign are often amplified.
A Double Libra may naturally place a stronger emphasis on harmony, fairness, relationships, diplomacy, and seeing both sides of an issue.
Or, like me…
Libra Sun, Libra Moon, and Libra Rising.

That’s what’s known as a Triple Libra. At the time, I had no idea what this meant until I met one of my former co-hosts of my first two In5D Conferences, Helane Lipson, who ran my birth chart for me. When she told me I was a Triple Libra, I was like, “Huh???” and then she expllained what it meant. After that, everything all came together as to who I am, my personality, why I have a hard time making decisions, etc…
Most people think that Libras are all about balance, and that’s true, but what most people don’t realize is that we’re constantly seeking balance. That’s a HUGE difference! And don’t ask a Libran to make a decision about anything. We’re amazing at seeing the bigger picture of A and Z, but struggle with B through Y….lol (Fellow Librans, you know exactly what I’m talking about!)
On the other hand, it also helps explain why I enjoy bringing people together and creating balance wherever I can.
Being a Triple Libra also explains why I have such a great relationship with my daughter, because my triple Air feeds my daughter’s Leo fire. It also made me wonder about everyone else in my life. Once you start looking up the Sun, Moon, and Rising signs of your family and friends, you’ll probably begin understanding them on a much deeper level, too.
The same idea applies to every zodiac sign. A Double Leo may radiate confidence and creativity. A Triple Scorpio may experience emotions and transformation more deeply. A Double Virgo may naturally notice details that other people overlook.
It doesn’t mean you’re “more” of that sign than everyone else; it means those energies are woven into multiple layers of your personality, influencing not just who you are, but also how you feel and how you present yourself to the world.
Understanding the Bigger Picture
Knowing your Sun, Moon, and Rising signs doesn’t tell you everything about yourself, but it gives you a much stronger starting point for understanding your strengths, emotional patterns, relationships, and the unique way you move through life. It’s one of the reasons why so many people become fascinated with astrology. Instead of putting everyone born during the same month into one category, it begins recognizing that we’re all far more complex than that.
