“Yet, to do so, you must feel the pain of every other being that comes before you.”
Some days I feel as though I’ve made a deal with the devil. But only some days. The rest come with a sacred responsibility and a choice, to either be consumed or empowered.
The thing is, this world needs us. We are the ones that notice. We see what others can’t see and we feel when others don’t.
My previous partner would probably describe my empathic ways as neurotic. I could see, feel and hear his pain and was forcing him to heal. At the time, I didn’t realize it wasn’t my place, it wasn’t my pain and I invaded his darkness when he wasn’t ready. There’s a line I crossed and the hardest thing was walking away knowing there was nothing I could do. It’s a painful thing to accept when I have this inflated sense of responsibility etched into my bones. I think that is where we struggle, boundaries can be non-existent, we want to crack you open and watch you heal.
Just a simple “I am okay” doesn’t get past us and we can’t help but dive into your pain with you and keep you afloat until you figure out how to swim on your own again. It is an instinctual devotion to healing the world life by life. We exist to get lost with you, grieve with you and rejoice with you.
Sometimes we are still lost even when you’re found because we forget it is not our pain. Then a fellow empath will lead us home. It’s a domino effect of guidance and stubborn souls.
If you’re in love with an empath the journey will be intense. You’ll walk in a constant truth alongside us because we physically can’t hide our emotions. You will always be in the know. You’ll never be alone and there’ll never be an issue that can’t be discussed.
We have caressed pain so well and learnt its dimensions for years. There’s no place for us to fear anyone else’s but our own. Ours is secondary and we know this can be harmful to us yet we know no other way. The world can become an extremely dark place at times and this can require a great deal of alone time. This is the time we take to differentiate our own pain and the pain of others we carry.
It hurts. It f*****g hurts. But what are we to do if we made a promise to the land.
