At birth, we were bonded for $1 million from the International Monetary Fund. The bank, on behalf of the public under your CUSIP number, borrowed $1 million from the IMF.
Since your birth, $1 million in US Treasury bonds were issued and sold on the NYSE and has grown to over $100 million.
CUSIP number: a unique identification number assigned to stocks and registered bonds in the United States and Canada. It comprises nine letters and includes letters and numbers. CUSIPs were first introduced in 1964 to simplify the settlement and clearance of stocks.
