Why Do Spiritual Awakenings Happen?

Spiritual Awakenings are events in our life that challenges us to go higher. These are moments of wonder, as we try to unravel deeper meanings in our dealings. As such, it is a sort of a transcendental experience (not necessarily mystical), wherein one begins to raise significant questions about life.
“Why am I here?”, “What is my Purpose?”, “What’s in store for me after death?”, When people begin asking these big questions, they brutally force their way out from the bounds that society have set for them. Whereas most of us are trapped in the so-called “American Dream,” some of us are actually aspiring for something more, something more profound and higher at the same time.
As such, when individuals begin to see beneath the silhouette of materialism and social influence, one considers the more significant questions in life. Such questions spark the beginning of a journey – the path towards spiritual awakening.
How do Spiritual Awakenings Happen?
Generally, Spiritual Awakening happens when we are faced with crossroads in life. When we’re forced to choose between one decision over the other (like a career path or a person to marry) some big questions may arise.
In the same way, unfortunate incidences in life can easily cause these things to happen. For instance, the death of a loved one can make us ask if there is any meaning to life at all. Am I doing what I should be doing? Why am I blindly following this pursuit of wealth? Where am I headed to anyways?
These questions are there but we just continually ignore them. If we think of them, they will be like guests at our doorstep, waiting to enter our premises. The key is in letting them enter.
So why do they happen anyway?
When our soul begins to yearn for something more, spiritual awakenings happen. As it attempts to evolve, the soul expands into areas that it hasn’t previously tapped. Generally, if we are consumed by the post-modern 21st-century universe, then the untapped areas would usually be spiritual.
Adding to this, spiritual awakening also happens as a result of practicing meditation. When we begin emptying the mind of its current thoughts, we allow space for new ideas to come in. This signals an awakening, an opportunity of the mind to be filled with a new set of information and thoughts.
Furthermore, when we begin examining the contents of the unconscious mind, we will naturally arrive at spiritual awakening. Given the vastness and complexity of this level in the psyche, we will arrive at contents which are naturally strange and unfamiliar to us. Such an experience will raise questions and doubt on the current reality that we are living in as it points us to new and deeper questions in life.
For instance, when we have dreams, we get to experience a mixed-up version of fragments from reality. In doing so, we become more attuned with the mystical and the divine, opening the pathway for spiritual awakening.
Thus, when you feel that some of these signs are present in your life, it is time for you to takeover. Such a unique experience of spiritual awakening is crucial for your spiritual growth, allowing you to become more than what society wants you to be.
